Hurdy Gurdy
The Hurdy Gurdy is quite unusual in design. Instead of using a bow like most stringed instruments, the Hurdy Gurdy is played by cranking a wooden wheel that continuously plays and the notes are played by a keyboard-like mechanism.
This instrument is popular in Medieval, 18th century, and folk music, and was particularly popular in France, where it is known as the “La vielle à roue”, which sounds much more elegant.
